Buying oils cut with additives is not so much a problem as bunk overcooked oils and from plants grown in regions where the soil is so poor the plant can barely grow. But there is still a problem with even the oils that come from the best most pristine places on Earth but are watered down with some cheap almond or other cheap oil.
Note: Cutting oils or even enhancing them can go undetected in a lab. Instead of adding synthetic artificial chemicals to make the oils smell stronger or better after overcooking them, companies can infuse the bottle itself so it can bring out the aromas of the oils just long enough to use them. Once the oils are out of the bottle, usually in about 4 hours the infusion wears off but it is there just long enough for someone to think it smells good and believe its going to be therapeutic for them.
If an oil does not have that oily ring after you put one single drop on a white blank peice of paper, and the oil smells strangely extra strong, its probably infused.
Notice: Infusing oils is not a problem that I am addressing. It is only when they are infused to hide the fact the essential oil has become bunk or is denatured to start with. I infuse all my oils with a infused sticker on the bottom. Infusing my oils has been a game changer as far as what I expect from my oils now.
I take oils and if they are not 100% pure or if the they have been overly distilled, they clump together differently. A test to try at home. An essential oil from one company, just say peppermint, looks totally different than another brand. When heating the oils, each drop of oil onceat the boiling point should have its own dissipation characteristic too
